ADMISSION NOTIFICATION 

M.Phil Programmes offered at the Schools of Study of the University for the academic year 2019-20

Applications are invited for admission to the M.Phil Programmes of the Schools of Study of the University for the academic year 2019-20. Name of the School and eligibility criteria are given below:  

1.  SCHOOL OF BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES (1988)

Entrance test (one hour duration) consists of objective type (20 marks), short answer type questions (20 marks) and interview (10 marks).  The question paper will be designed in an interdisciplinary manner based on the syllabus of their qualifying examinations.

The Entrance Test will be of one hour duration consisting of objective, short answers and essay type questions.  The question paper will be based on the syllabus of the General papers of M.Ed. Degree Examination of Mahatma Gandhi University.

The Entrance Test will be of two hours duration consisting of objective type questions, based on candidates’ ability in verbal reasoning, English grammer and comprehension, General Knowledge, Research Methodology and functional areas of Business Management.

Entrance test is of 90 minutes duration (Total 80 marks – 40 marks for objective type questions and 40 marks for descriptive type questions) based on PG level Computer Science/Computer Application syllabus. 

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS ON ADMISSION PROCEDURE

1.  SELECTION PROCESS

50% seats are reserved for teacher candidates and the remaining 50% for open quota.  Selection is based on the marks obtained in the Qualifying Examination, Entrance test and Interview in a proportion of 100:40:10 except for M.Phil Programmes in the School of Social Sciences, School of Pedagogical Sciences, School of Pure and Applied Physics, School of Biosciences and the School of Computer Sciences. 

For M.Phil Programmes in Social Sciences, selection shall be made giving weightage to the marks obtained in the Qualifying Examination, Entrance Test and Interview in the proportion 50:30:20 and for the M.Phil programmes offered by the School of Pedagogical Sciences, School of Pure and Applied Physics, School of Biosciences and the School of Computer Sciences, it shall be in the proportion  50:40:10.  Teachers selected under FIP/UGC/JRF are exempted from the entrance test.

Allotment of specialization for M.Phil will be made after the admission depending upon the merit, aptitude and performance in the test.  Number of seat allocation in each branch will vary depending upon the infrastructural facilities and the faculty position of the department concerned.

The M.Phil programmes are conducted under the Credit and Semester system.

2.   RELAXATION OF MARKS AND RESERVATION OF SEATS 

There will be relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination for SC/ST candidates for the M.Phil Programmes.  SEBC candidates are eligible for a concession of 3% marks and OEC candidates are eligible for a concession of 5% marks.  In the absence of SC/ST candidates, vacancy will be filled up from eligible OEC/SEBC/General candidates in the respective order of preference.  Three percent of seats shall be reserved for candidates having physical disabilities for admission to all the Programmes.  Physically challenged candidates suffering from disability of 40% or more and certified as such by a Government Medical Board indicating the percentage of disability shall be considered for reservation.

An additional 10 percentage of seats or 2 seats, whichever is higher is earmarked for foreign students for each programme in the University Teaching and Research  Department.

3.   COMMUNAL RESERVATION

Reservation of seats to the eligible communities will be in accordance with the   

Roaster System introduced for merit and reservation for the programmes in the University Teaching Departments prepared based on the Government orders regarding reservation issued from time to time.

Reservation of seats to the SEBC will be in accordance with the provisions contained in G.O.( P) No.208/66/Edn dated 02.05.1966, as amended from time to time. They should invariably produce both community and non-creamy layer certificate obtained from the revenue authorities concerned. The self attested copies of the above certificates should be attached with the application.

Economically backward among forward community should invariably submit income and BPL certificate from the authorities concerned for proving their eligibility.

3.   COMMUNAL RESERVATION

Reservation of seats to the eligible communities will be in accordance with the

Reservation and relaxation in minimum marks based on income, caste etc. will be allowed according to the rules of the University.

4.   WEIGHTAGE OF MARKS

Weightage of marks for proficiency in Sports/Games/NCC/NSS etc. and bonus marks for Ex-servicemen applicants and widows and children of Jawans/             Ex-servicemen will be given as per the existing rules of admission. 

  • HOW TO APPLY:
    • Admission Notification and application forms can be downloaded from the University Website http://www.mgu.ac.in.   Application forms are not available at any other source.
  • The Registration Fee for M.Phil programme is Rs.800/-. Candidates should      remit the REGISTRATION fee by way of e-payment. 
  • SC/ST candidates need to pay only 50% of the registration fee.
    • Fee once remitted shall not be refunded.
    • The University will not be responsible for delay in communication or late

                                                  receipt of any document due to postal delay.

  • The filled up application form should be complete in all respects.  Defective and

                                                  incomplete applications will be rejected.

  • A self-addressed stamped (Rs. 5/-) envelope is to be attached along with the                                                  application.
    • Candidates applying for more than one Programme in a School need send only

                                                 one application form, specifying the order of preference.

  • ELIGIBILITY:
    • All those who possess the approved minimum qualification are eligible to apply.
  • Only the Programmes and their equivalents approved by the Mahatma Gandhi University shall be reckoned as eligible qualification.
  • Copies of documents to prove qualification/age/caste and other relevant certificates should be attached along with the application.  Original documents should be produced at the time of interview/admission.
  • CANDIDATES AWAITING FINAL YEAR RESULTS CAN ALSO APPLY FOR THESE PROGRAMMES, PROVIDED THEY PRODUCE THEIR MARKLISTS

BEFORE the finalisation of the rank list.  Those candidates who have applied for Programmes in more than one School should submit copies of marklists to each School concerned.

  • No rounding of percentage of marks to the nearest whole number is permitted.
  • Those who have qualified from Universities other than M.G. University should produce eligibility/recognition certificate from this University and Migration Certificate/NOC from the parent University at the time of admission.
  • If an applicant for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed later that he/she had indulged in ragging, admissions shall be refused or he/she shall be expelled from the educational institution. 

The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has directed that if any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the student concerned shall be given liberty to explain and if his/her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority shall expel him/her from the institution.

7.  WHERE TO SUBMIT APPLICATION

Duly filled up applications along with registration fee (e-Payment Receipt) and copies of documents should be sent to the DIRECTORS OF THE SCHOOLS CONCERNED so as to reach on or before 16.01.2020. The name of the Programme and the School to which applied for shall be superscribed on the envelope. 

The closing date of admission shall be 30.03.2020.
